Celery: Five Ways to Live With Green.

An airy herbal green with subtle yellow undertones. Five thoughtful combinations that invite you to see familiar rooms differently, without starting over.

It's 9:18 on a Wednesday morning.

The kitchen window is open. There's a cup on the table, a book beside a wooden chair, and sunlight moving slowly across the floor. You've been looking at the same walls for years, but today you're imagining them in a different color.

Not because there's anything wrong with the room.

Perhaps because you have finally noticed how much a color can change the way familiar objects relate to one another. A wooden table, a pale linen curtain, an old ceramic vase. They all stay exactly where they are, yet a different background could make you notice them again.

And this time, the color on your mind is green.

Meet Celery, the Color of the Year 2027

Sherwin-Williams has selected Celery SW 6421 as its Color of the Year 2027.

The company describes it as an airy herbal green with subtle yellow undertones, somewhere between the lightness of a pastel and the grounded quality of an herbal shade.

It's an interesting starting point. Not because a Color of the Year announcement means we should repaint our walls, but because it invites us to reconsider combinations we might otherwise overlook.

The brand also presents a collection of coordinating colors. Rather than using all of them together, we've selected five possible combinations. Each has a different purpose, a different room in mind and a different relationship with the objects you may already own.

These are ORIGIN. House Studio's editorial interpretations, not official decorating formulas.

Celery, White Flour & Woven Wicker

Celery SW 6421 · White Flour SW 7102 · Woven Wicker SW 9104

For: a living room that needs a little more personality without losing its familiar atmosphere.

Imagine a sofa beside a window, a wooden coffee table and curtains that have been there for years. The room doesn't need new furniture. What it may need is a clearer relationship between the colors already present.

In this palette, let Celery take the largest painted surface. Use White Flour on a smaller architectural area, such as trim or a ceiling, while Woven Wicker becomes a supporting accent rather than competing with the main color. Natural wood and linen stay part of the composition.

The interesting decision is how much Celery you actually want to see. A complete wall creates one experience. A smaller painted section near a bookshelf creates another. Before choosing, observe the room throughout the day.

The ORIGIN gesture: place a real Celery sample near your existing sofa and wooden furniture. See whether the combination still interests you after the afternoon light changes.

Celery, Artichoke & Cocoon

Celery SW 6421 · Artichoke SW 6179 · Cocoon SW 6173

For: a bedroom where you want a coordinated palette without replacing the furniture.

Bedrooms often contain more materials than we immediately notice: bedding, curtains, wooden nightstands, books and framed photographs. Instead of removing those differences, give them a shared background.

Imagine Celery on the main wall behind the bed, Artichoke on a smaller piece of furniture and Cocoon in a limited architectural detail. Keep the bedding you already love. Let its folds, texture and everyday use soften the arrangement.

This isn't an invitation to paint every surface. A bedroom still needs to feel comfortable when the bed is unmade, when a book is left on the nightstand and when the curtains are half-open.

The ORIGIN gesture: begin with one sample behind the headboard. If the idea feels too strong, try Celery on a smaller surface instead.

Celery, Kirsch Red & Plum Brown

Celery SW 6421 · Kirsch Red SW 6313 · Plum Brown SW 6272

For: a dining room that brings together everyday objects and a more expressive palette.

Imagine a wooden dining table with chairs collected at different times. There are books on a sideboard, a familiar serving bowl and perhaps a tablecloth that appears on special occasions. You don't need a complete dining set for the room to feel considered.

Here, Celery provides the main background. Kirsch Red becomes a deliberately limited accent, while Plum Brown can be reserved for a smaller furniture or architectural element. Wood, linen and the dishes you already use help the room remain personal.

The aim is not to make the dining room theatrical. It's to let one expressive detail interrupt an otherwise familiar arrangement.

The ORIGIN gesture: before painting, place paint samples near your existing tableware and view the grouping from the doorway.

Celery, Georgian Bay & Cosmos

Celery SW 6421 · Georgian Bay SW 6509 · Cosmos SW 6528

For: a work corner that needs visual interest while remaining practical.

A desk can become an accumulation of useful things: notebooks, papers, books, a lamp and objects that arrived there without much planning. Color can help define the corner, but it shouldn't make working more difficult.

Let Celery establish the main painted area. Use Georgian Bay and Cosmos selectively, perhaps on a shelf, the inside of a cabinet or the accessories you already have. Keep the desk surface functional, with room for the things you need to reach throughout the day.

And remember that the amount of daylight changes how you'll experience any painted background.

The ORIGIN gesture: test the samples behind your desk, then observe them with your normal task lighting before committing to a permanent change.

05. The Unexpected Reading Corner — Celery & Potentially Purple

Celery SW 6421 · Potentially Purple SW 6821

For: a reading corner where you enjoy a little experimentation.

Not every room needs an entirely predictable palette. Perhaps there's an armchair you love, a shelf of books with different covers and a small lamp that makes the corner feel inviting after sunset.

Celery can become the main painted backdrop, while Potentially Purple introduces a smaller contrasting area: the back of a shelf, a door, a picture frame.

The key is restraint. If the chair already has an interesting fabric or the shelves are full of colorful books, you may need very little painted contrast.

The ORIGIN gesture: arrange physical samples beside your favorite chair. Move them around until the combination feels like something you could enjoy every day.

The myth of the childish green room

Myth

A light green always makes a room feel childish

Reality

A color doesn't create an entire decorating style by itself. Its effect depends on the surfaces where it appears, the surrounding materials, the amount used and the objects already present. Celery can live in very different rooms without turning any of them into a themed interior.

A color isn't a personality test. It doesn't demand that you replace your sofa, buy matching cushions or coordinate every object. A room becomes personal through the relationships between materials, color and everyday life.

Five palettes, one simple decision

Before you change a wall

Choose one palette and give it a little time. Look at the room in daylight. Look again in the evening, when the lamps are on. Place physical samples near the furniture and textiles that will stay.

If you're considering painting, check the surface, its current finish and the preparation it needs. If you rent, ask before you paint.

And if you decide not to paint, that's a perfectly good result too. You may find a similar sense of contrast by moving a familiar textile, book or object to a different place.

A color trend becomes interesting when it helps us see the home we already have, not when it persuades us to replace it.

The color that stays with you

By late afternoon, the room from our opening scene is quiet again. The wooden chair hasn't moved. The book remains on the table, and the curtains catch the changing light.

Perhaps you'll paint a wall Celery. Perhaps you'll choose a small cabinet, or simply keep the samples for another day. There's no deadline.

If you want to explore the other end of the green spectrum, see how dark green rooms work.

Because the beauty of everyday living isn't about following every new color. It's about learning which colors make the life you already have feel more like yours.

Celery, White Flour y Woven Wicker

Celery SW 6421 · White Flour SW 7102 · Woven Wicker SW 9104

03. Una mesa con personalidad — Celery, Kirsch Red y Plum Brown

Celery SW 6421 · Kirsch Red SW 6313 · Plum Brown SW 6272

Celery, Georgian Bay y Cosmos

Celery SW 6421 · Georgian Bay SW 6509 · Cosmos SW 6528
